Start of a new television program on UNINETTUNO.UNIVERSITY.TV to present the works of Mediterranean young directors

Rome, the 7th April 2016 – the realization of a TV program aimed at spreading and promoting the works of young directors of the Mediterranean Area: this is the purpose of the project launched by COPEAM, the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators, by the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, in Rome, and by the schools of cinema of ALBA (based in Beirut), ESAV (Marrakesh) and ESAC (Tunis).

The program entitled “À première vue” will be aired starting from the month of May, on a monthly basis, on the satellite channel UNINETTUNO.UNIVERSITY.TV (free to air on 812 Sky channel and on 701 Tivùsat channel). Each show of the program will include three short films (one for each school), devoted to a specific issue that will change every time and will be selected among the best works of the students of the three schools. In order to promote and tell personal stories and not only technical skills, the selected short films will be introduced by a short self-portrait of the director, made by the students themselves, that will be useful to explain the work done.

In order to realize the program’s theme song a contest was launched, addressed to the students of the three schools of cinema involved: the winner is Abdel Halim Zabouri, a student of ESAV of Marrakesh, selected by a committee including Maria Amata Garito, rector of the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, the Algerian director, Rachid Benhadj, by Hicham Falah, art director of the Moroccan FIDADOC festival and Nicola Caligiore, COPEAM vice secretary general. The student will be awarded a scholarship given by UNINETTUNO University during COPEAM Annual Conference taking place in Ajaccio from the 7th to the 9th April.

“Cinema is one of the languages of art by which you convey feelings, thoughts, expectations and dreams. Promoting and spreading the works of the students of the schools of cinema of some countries of the Arab World – the rector of the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO prof. Maria Amata Garito states – will help us understanding and getting a new perspective to understand differences, share dreams and listen to the voices of the young people of the Mediterranean Region”.

This important initiative, taken by UNINETTUNO and COPEAM, represents a concrete example of synergy among universities, schools of cinema and televisions to promote young talents of the Mediterranean Area and develop international and intercultural cooperation among younger generations, even to face the troubles of accessing the market and of promoting the works realized by the students of the schools of cinema.
