The course of Introduction to the Sociology of media and communication is a basic course to learn necessary skills preliminary professional media and communication. The course describes studies, analyses, theories, paradigms of the sociology of cultural and communicative processes. |

The course provides students in Communication Sciences to acquire the necessary theoretical and practical skills about media and communication, through the study of communication theories and the dynamics of the media system. The student at the end of the course will be able to analyze the phenomena of contemporary media with the tools of sociology of communication. |
The course starts from the communication as a universal agent of transformation and the media as tools of modernization of contemporary society (the press and the Constitution of the United Nation, the television and the democratization of education, networking and globalization, etc.). We’ll studied the founders of the science of media, the global system of contemporary media, the models and the theories of communication, the relationship between communication technologies and cultural effects, social and individual processes of media, cultural industries and media consumption, with a specific focus on the Italian case. Topics of the course are: a) paradigms of communication; b) the effects of the media and the public; c) the public and the cultural consumption; d) industry and cultural event in Italy. |
Exercises will be conducted through the use of synchronous and asynchronous communication tools on platform Uninettuno. The student must do the exercises before the examination. The exercises are individual but as a class can to discusse on the forum or in virtual classroom. The exercises aren’t necessary to obtain the admission to exam but they are useful to test the preparation of students. |
