Course description |
The course provides an analysis of the rationale of the European Union integration, from an economic and monetary perspective. The videolectures lead the student throught the main steps of the economic integration process also highlighting advantages and potential drawbacks. In addition, the course provides for a comprehensive analysis of the Great Recession (2007-2009), its causes and actions taken in US and Europe; the European Union enlargement processes and the economic challenges EU is deemed to cope with at global level will be also discussed. A special emphasis of this course is given to the far-reaching issue of sustainable development. In this regard, the second part of the module is focused on themes such as food security, climate change and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the EU, a key chapter of the European integration process. |

Objectives |
This module aims at introducing students to the historical process of economic integration and path tha led to the institution of the Single market and the introduction of the common currency, allowing students to acquire economic notions that will enable them to craft opinions over the future of European integration. Also, this module gives the opportunity to deepen core issues related to sustainable development, increasingly crucial in the EU agenda, with a specific attention on food security and climate change.

Analysis of the dynamics underlying the European economic integration, its main steps and characteristics. Areas of study include the evolution of the economic crisis (2007-2009) and how it involved Europe, the development of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), EU monetary integration, climate change and food security, in the wider spectrum of sustainable development |
Exercises |
At the end of this module the student is expected to answer to open questions concerning the main issues addressed in the videolectures. |
