Course description
The course consists of 20 video lessons, which are the face to face teaching quota, and in scientific articles and writings that support preparation in the field of analysis and design of Industrial Plants.
The lessons are split into four macro-topics, ranging from preliminary feasibility studies and location of industrial plants; the determination of the production cycle and the calculation of production costs; the study of production flows, with the related analysis of design and management of production spaces; and finally in the definition of the aspects of the executive design of industrial plants and in the definition of some concepts inherent to the automation of production systems.
Prerequisites
Mathematics, Chemical, Physical and Statistics.

Objectives
The course aims to provide the general criteria for the design and management of mechanical industrial plants, understood as complex systems consisting of technological systems, service activities and production processes and systems, which contribute to the achievement of both economic objectives and those of production efficiency.
Program
Preliminary feasibility studies and methods for the location of industrial plants. Methods of Choice of the Production Cycle and definition of production costs. Study of material flows. Hypothesis of space distribution and management of spaces. The executive design of the plants. Integrated and flexible automation in production systems and related evolutions in industrial plants
Book
Domenico Falcone, Fabio De Felice, “PROGETTAZIONE E GESTIONE DEGLI IMPIANTI INDUSTRIALI”, ed. Hoepli.
Arrigo Pareschi, “Impianti industriali. Criteri di scelta, progettazione e realizzazione”, ed. Esculapio
Exercises
The exercises concern the main topics relating to the choice of location of the Industrial Plants; the design of the production lay-out; the design, organization and management of spaces; dimensioning and balancing of assemby lines; to the assessment of reliability of industrial systems.
All the proposed exercises will be proposed as possible case studies and the solutions will have to be articulated with conceptual and quantitative approaches.
