Emanuele Sommario is presently Assistant Professor (Ricercatore Universitario) of International Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa (Italy).
He holds a PhD in International Law from the Scuola Sant’Anna, an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Nottingham (UK) and a Degree in Political Science from the University of Pisa (all awarded with honours). He has been Excellence Fellow at the International Law Department of the University of Geneva (2010) and Visiting Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (2013).
His main interests lay in Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, the International Law on the use of force, Collective Security Law and International Disaster Response law, subjects which he teaches at under- and post-graduate level both in Italy and abroad.
As from 2000, he is Programme Officer at the International Training Programme for Conflict Management of the Scuola Sant’Anna (www.itpcm.sssup.it). He served in several Electoral Observation Missions and was engaged in training activities for the personnel of international, governmental and non-governmental organisations in Europe, the Horn of Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans.
